Multidisciplinary artist Carmen García Bartolomé (1971) was baptized in Madrid as Carmen la Griega (Carmen the Greek) after her time in Greece. It was there where she began the development of her artistic activity, starting with visual art creation and transitioning into performance art. Her latest work has been displayed at the Gallery Alegría in Madrid and in Barcelona (2013). Other solo exhibitions that stand out include “Judias Verdes” (Green Beans) in the Galería Columpio (Madrid, 2010) y “La Gran Madre Negra” (The Great Black Mother) in the Kulturpalas Wedding International (Berlin, 2008) which was supported by Matadero Madrid. Among her recent performance artwork, “La Gran Madre Negra” was performed at the Teatro Pradillo (Madrid, 2011) y “Aracne” in the Centro de Artes de Dos de Mayo and in the Circulo de Bellas Artes (Madrid, 2010).
As an artist and an educator, the pedagogical process of Carmen La Griega is closely tied to the process of creation. Due to this union of art and instruction, Carmen’s passion for teaching is always active. Her workshop, Taller La Griega, is a place that generates creation, and the children who enter the studio cannot help but activate the artists within themselves.
With a degree in Fine Arts and a doctorate in Arts Education, Carmen has given workshops in El Centro de Artes Dos de Mayo, el Círculo de Bellas Artes, el IED, el Colegio Ntrs. Sra. de la Paloma and in her own workshop, the Taller La Griega. She has given lectures in relation to her artistic process for the faculty of La Universidad Menéndez Pelayo de Santander and at the Faculty of Education (Master de Expertos en Educación Artística).
